A Novel Approach to Divorce Recovery - A Gilded Sky, Chapter 29

Warning: The question contains spoilers. If you haven't already read the book, you may not want to read the questions.

In Chapter 29, Beth visits the Jacksons, both Thomas in prison and his wife in Indianola, Iowa. Read the chapter (starting on page 188). What are some things she says that strike a cord with you? Do you understand what she's doing? Do you believe that she needed to go to such extreme lengths to give forgiveness? Did she really need to try to help the Jacksons restore their marriage?

Jesus said if your brother has anything against you, leave your offering at the altar and go be reconciled. Find that passage and explore it in context. See if you can find other related passages. How important does God say forgiveness and reconciliation are?

Have you forgiven your ex-spouse? Was it just words or did you dive in with both feet like Beth did? Have you attempted reconciliation (even if you can't restore the marriage)? If you have but your efforts have failed, are you still trying? If not, what's keeping you from doing it? What do you need to do to move into God's will and give up your hurt feelings? What are specific steps that will help you get there? How can your friends best help you?
