A Novel Approach to Divorce Recovery - Seasons of Change, Chapter 25

Warning: The question contains spoilers. If you haven't already read the book, you may not want to read the questions.

In Chapter 25, Heather and Steve's relationship goes long distance. They share a lot of things, but their sharing is different. Carefully read the chapter, starting from halfway down page 175, "And so their days ...." Try to figure out what's different about their sharing.

The Psalms are full of what are called "laments." These are psalms in which the psalmists are very transparent about the negative feelings they have in their relationship with God. Explore some of the lament psalms to see what usually happens when psalmists express their darker feelings. (Lesson 1 of "A Novel Approach" has a comprehensive list of lament psalms.) Do you think that vulnerability in a relationship makes you stronger or weaker? Does it make the relationship better or worse?

Are you someone who has a hard time expressing your feelings to God and to others? Or do you often spew your emotions with little worry about what others think? What negative impact would either of the above have had on your relationship with your ex? What would be a better way to handle your emotions? How can you learn to handle your doubts, fears and anger in a healthy way? How can your friends hold you accountable?
