A Novel Approach to Marriage Building - Seasons of Change, Chapter 35
Remember, when you get to the questions that are specific about your marriage, make sure you both share!
Warning: The question contains spoilers. If you haven't already read the book, you may not want to read the questions.
Read page 245-246, from down toward the bottom of the page, "'I messed up big ...'" through the end of that scene.
Gloria confesses to Steve that he wasn't the only one who reacted poorly that day at the hospital. Everyone had blame to share, from Heather who tried to hide her weakness from Steve to Luke and Gloria who tried to shield her from Steve's hurting and hurtful reaction. Do you think her assesment was right? Did Luke and Gloria take what should have been Steve's place? Does it matter that Steve and Heather aren't even engaged yet?
Ephesians 5:22-33 directly addresses the relationship between husbands and wives. Using cross-references, find more passages that also show the way godly couples should act towards each other. Even though Steve and Heather aren't engaged yet, they should still be on the road to loving each other this way. It won't get easier once the wedding happens.
Does what you read in the bible change what you think about Gloria and Steve's conversation? What are some ways Heather and Steve didn't love each other in a godly way? Do you think Steve's on the right track at the end of that scene?
How well do you and your spouse practice this kind of godly love for each other? How can you improve? What are specifc ways that your spouse can show godly love to you?
